Software Engineers ANPR Products
The roles involve:
a) Software engineering, support and development of our Emergency Services products such as speed detection and Automatic Number Plate Recognition ( ANPR)
b) Software support for other road transport systems, such as ANPR, as part of the ProVida/Emergency Services product range.
Qualification:
a) HND/degree or higher in Software Engineering or Electrical/Electronic Engineering with Software.
b) Proven software engineering experience within an electronic sector is essential. We are particularly interested in hearing from applicants with experience in ANPR and or Speed Detection technologies
The ideal candidates:
To be successful in these roles the ideal candidates will be experienced and educated as above, additionally they will possess the following
a) Good technical understanding and experience of embedded C, C/C++ and Delphi programming languages.
b) Understanding Windows-based platforms and GUIs.
c) Excellent software design and fault-finding skills, including good software development practice.
d) Good working knowledge of IP transmission, storage and networking systems/standards.
e) Good communication skills – liaison with team members, company departments and customers is important.
Transport Sales Manager
Petards are a European market leader in the design and manufacture of intelligent CCTV / video capture analysis solutions used across all aspects of the transport sector.
Developing our presence in the transport sector is a key feature of our business strategy and as such we are looking to recruit Transport Sales Managers who will have a responsibility for identifying and developing opportunities in line with our business objectives.
These are key appointments reporting to the Commercial Director and as such, the successful applicant will have experience in working at a senior level within the transport sector.
As a Transport Sales Manager with Petards you will have excellent presentation and communication skills which together with your achievements to date, management experience and people skills will have you positioned for your next challenging career move.
Whilst this role is home based there will be considerable interaction with the engineering and support staff at our Gateshead facility.
European Channel Manager - Transport
Overview
As part of its growth plan Petard’s is strengthening the European Transport Sales team with the addition of a European Channel Manager.
Petards are a leading international provider of advanced security and surveillance systems and the premier supplier of on-board CCTV in the UK rail market. Petards are the first supplier of fully digital on-board mobile CCTV systems in the transport market.
Petards has a comprehensive range of highly innovative transport solutions, branded globally as eyeTrainTM, comprises on-board ‘end to end’ digital CCTV systems, Forward Facing cameras, Automatic Passenger Counting systems and Driver Only Operation CCTV.
On-board CCTV in the transport sector is a growth market driven by environmental issues, population growth, staff safety, public safety, vandalism and at the risk of terrorist activity.
Petards is now enhancing its transport sales team to deliver the next growth phase in this sector.
Our Strategy to achieve this is to recruit suitably skilled and experienced people within the territory and hence this will be a Mainland Europe based role with cross border and international co-operation expected and required.
Job Function
This role is seen as a strategic position within the transport team and as such we need to recruit an experienced Channel Manager who is capable of identifying the correct channels and set up effective wining agreements.
This position is home office based. The suitable candidate must be prepared to travel extensively within the territory and to Petards offices in the UK in order to carry out customer meetings promoting Petards, its products, solutions, services and execute the European Transport strategy delivering to sales budget and forecast.
This is both a hunter and gatherer role requiring skills to identify opportunities, build customer confidence, driving and positioning Petards and importantly have the skills to close opportunities.
Routes to market vary and hence the need to manage and build relationships with train manufactures, refurbishment organisations, system integrators and agents is important.
The target of this role is to work closely with channels; developing relationships, driving channels, attending end user meetings, “buying” channel mind set ensuring Petards is well represented by channel, forecasting channel business, implementing channel programs, channel communication.
The key objective is to deliver the transport channel sales budget to forecast and manage channel partners.
Territory
Mainland Europe excluding the UK.
Location
This position is home office based and based within the territory. Location is dependant upon where the best candidate can be identified for this role. Our target Countries are Holland, Belgium, Germany and France. It is essential that the candidate is living close to major transport hubs (both air & rail) for ease of travelling.
Reporting line
The position reports directly to the Commercial Director - Transport who is based in the UK.
Candidate profile
The following are the main attributes background and skill sets required to fulfil this position;
- Outstanding and demonstrable European channel sales ability
- Demonstrable management of channels with high value complex account situations
- Currently working as a Channel Manager for a manufacturer in related technology sector either in Europe or a large territory, candidates may come from
- Organisations in similar technology sectors
- Train manufacturing / refurbishment companies, system integrators or railway operating companies in Europe - Recent experience of selling into the rail sector, preferably electrical / electronic products
- Selling competitive products from other electrical / electronic suppliers
- APC (Automatic passenger counting)
- PIS (Passenger Information systems)
- Control systems, air conditioning systems
- Demonstrable manufacturer relationships within the transport railway sector
- Ability to work from a home office environment remotely based in territory
- Language skills are necessary; native language plus English and at least one or more other territory language is a distinct advantage
- Strong channel sales closing skills, working with end user customers
- Self motivation, ambition and a desire and need to succeed
- Team orientation and at ease in matrix environment
- Organised, structured and disciplined
- Basic understanding of IP / electronic principles is an advantage

Project Managers
With a strong project management methodology background, you will take overall responsibility for quality, cost and on time delivery of complex engineering solutions and products. Commercially aware and confident, you are likely to have at least 3 years experience managing £million contracts in complex and demanding industries.
Mechanical Design Engineer
Petards provide a complete design, development, manufacturing and technical support of defence and advanced security surveillance systems for our core markets of defence, transport, government and emergency services.
An experienced mechanical design engineer is required to produce detailed drawings of electromechanical products using AutoCad 2D and Inventor 3D software. Successful applicants will have a minimum of 5 years experience of producing general arrangements, parts lists and detail drawings to military, rail and BSI standards. Demonstrable experience of designing high reliability products within tight timescales is essential.
Software Engineer
Purpose of the Job
To maintain and onwards develop existing product as well as writing new bespoke software. The job requires full development life cycle experience of taking functional requirements from the client, providing accurate estimates, producing detailed designed documentation, developing robust and scaleable software, creating test plans and performing testing.
Overview
As a software developer you will be working on a wide range of security and surveillance software products which are developed by Petards. Your primary responsibilities will be to take functional requirement specifications and accurately estimate the work involved, produce detailed designs, white/black box test plans, develop the software and test it. You may also be required to help formulate new product ideas / specifications and generate requirements.
You will be part of a team and therefore must have good team working skills.
- You will report to the Engineering Manager - Transport.
- You will interface directly with the R&D / Projects Engineering teams and Project Managers.
- You will also need to interface with other departments / personnel depending on project requirements.
Off-site work may occasionally be required which will involve staying away from home for short durations.
Experience Required
Programming: | Experience in developing large and complex real time systems using C, C++, Visual C++. Knowledge of embedded Operating Systems is an added advantage. Proven experience in a Microsoft platform application arena is essential. (eg Visual Studio, MFC etc). Experience of software design analysis, requirement gathering, specification writing and design techniques is essential. Experience of the following languages is also highly desirable: C#, VB6, VB.NET, HTML, ASP 2, SQL, embedded real time programming. |

Principal Responsibilities
- Work as part of the Transport R&D team to support development of new and existing software (including, but not limited to windows GUI software)
- Take functional requirements and produce accurate development estimates.
- Produce detailed design documentation.
- Produce scalable, robust and high quality software that meets the requirements.
- White and Black box testing.
- Ensure customer satisfaction. Build and sustain a good working relationship with Customers.
- Ensure that standards are maintained and that effort is prioritised and scheduled on a daily basis.
- Flexibility to work on a wide number of projects.
- Ability to take ownership of a task and drive it to a satisfactory conclusion.
Project Assistant
Supporting the project managers in their day to day activities, we currently have an excellent opportunity for a highly organised and focussed administrator who is interested in commercial projects. Previous MRP/sales order process would be advantageous in this role. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate excellent skills in MS Office products and will be comfortable working to deadlines.
Embedded Design Engineers
As a firmware engineer, you will maintain and onwards develop existing product as well as writing new bespoke firmware. You will be working on a wide range of security and surveillance software products which have been developed by Petards. It is essential that you have good knowledge of microprocessor embedded system design and excellent hardware fault finding skills. You will also have a good working knowledge of serial communications such as RS232, RS485, RS422, I2C, SPI and PowerPC Design. In addition to this you will have experience of C / C++ and assembler for use in embedded systems.
Software Design Engineers
We also require developers with a minimum of 2 years experience in designing & developing GUI applications written in C, C++ and Visual C++. Knowledge of embedded Operating Systems is an added advantage. The successful candidate will also have proven experience in a Microsoft platform application arena such as Visual Studio, MFC. Additionally, knowledge of image compression such as MPEG2/4, H264 is desirable as are skills in SQL,C#,ASP,VB, and .NET
Sales and Business Development Managers
Further to the roles above we also have opportunities in our sales function. We currently require experienced Sales Managers to operate across the UK servicing and developing our markets in the Defence, Transport and Emergency services sectors. The ideal candidates will have experience of Account Management and selling in these sectors as well as being able to demonstrate achieving success in selling technical solutions.
